MOTHER
HIPS AT DAYTROTTER! The
Mother Hips stopped by The Horseshack in Rock
Island, Illinois to play some songs, new and old, and have the
Daytrotter guys record them. The
Daytrotter recordings are made with minimal mic’ing,
through discrete preamps and with some limiting to the mixing console,
where they are printed to 1/4” analog tape. The analog master
is later transferred to a computer and converted to MP3 and made
available to you!! There is no set formula or pattern to the recordings.
They are all live, no overdubs, straight to tape. What you hear
is what happened in the room that day. Check
out the Mother Hips Session where they perform "White
Falcon Fuzz," "Time-Sick Son of a Grizzly Bear," "Kansas
City Southern,"
and "Third Floor Story."

THE
MOTHER HIPS NEW ALBUM "PACIFIC DUST" OUT NOW!
NEW RECORD MIXES PURE AMERICANA STORYTELLING WITH PSYCHEDELIC POWER
POP -
The Mother Hips have flown under the radar as true indie music
pioneers for almost two decades. With the release of their new
album Pacific Dust, California's
unsung psych-pop heroes tell their story. Hailed by critics for
their "rootsy mix of 70s rock and power pop" (pitchfork.com) and
for their unflinching ability to "sing it sweet and play it dirty" (New
Yorker), on Pacific Dust The Hips' signature sound rings more genuine
and relevant than ever before.
"We came in
to this process with no expectations," says Bluhm. We went
in to the studio and gathered around a microphone and just jammed
for about three hours. We each took home copies of this jam and
listened for about a month. Then we came back together and, in
a way, tried to re-create the best parts of the demo tape. Pacific
Dust is part improvisation, part lucid dream, and part sweaty
rock concert. It is a big step forward for the Mother Hips."
For
the band's seventh full-length studio album, The Mother Hips
have never been more primed to share their well-traveled tales
- the long days and nights on the road, the gritty politics,
the smart inward reflections and man, the music! - all delivered
with a most appealing balance of Americana storytelling and
their California-burnished rock. Pacific Dust's compositions
about penning a song in your kitchen at 3:00 am (the thundering
album opener "White Falcon Fuzz"), record company politics
(garage-rock boogie "Third Floor Story"), and a father and
son's relationship through music (on the ballad "Young Charles
Ives") indeed tell the story of many American rock bands. But
here's why it matters: The Mother Hips have survived, and in
fact thrived, throughout the journey - and Pacific Dust, with
its bittersweet melodies, poignant lyrics, and strong and gritty
musicianship, is a perfect example of why. The Mother Hips
owe most of their success to their large and loyal fanbase.
Earlier albums such as Part-Timer
Goes Full, Green Hills of
Earth, and Red Tandy have
become almost cult classics among indie music buffs, and the
band's most recent 2007 release, Kiss
the Crystal Flake, offered proof that the band still continues
to attract new supporters. Over the years, the band has worked
with and played alongside a slew of renowned/respected colleagues
including super-producer Rick Rubin, Wilco, Johnny Cash, and
many others. Today, armed with their newest release Pacific
Dust, The Hips are poised to take their experience and talent
to another level for this next leg of their already epic journey.
Pacific
Dust was produced by The Mother Hips and David Simon Baker.
It contains 11 songs. track listing to be announced shortly.
The band will tour this
fall in support of Pacific Dust.

played in many years! The capacity crowd was treated to a high-energy
performance which we are now making available for download exclusively here. live

Courtesy
of Jambase "This Friday was the prime example of
why it is a good time to be a Mother Hips fan.
The first word went out on the Mother Hips message board The
Grotto months ago. The post was titled "Ultimate Setlist
Show." The idea was that fans build their dream setlist and
submit it to The Mother Hips. The band would then pick a
setlist at random and play it in its entirety. There were
few criteria: the list could not be more than 36 songs, it
needed to be two sets and the band had to have played all
of the songs in the show at least once over its near two
decade long history. There was no real publicity, but word
spread from The Grotto like the tendrils of a grapevine.
Those of us that needed to be at the Café du Nord
that night would get there. Fans that spanned the band's
full history gathered and discussed the impressive possibilities
of this "ultimate" idea. No matter whose list was chosen,
it would be an epic show." - Review by Andrew

LIMITED
EDITION SPLIT 7-inch VINYL w/ UK's THE BEES
Camera
Records is proud to release a split 7" vinyl single on April
22 from two acclaimed bands: Isle of Wight’s
Mercury prize-nominated The
Bees (also known as "A Band of Bees" in America) and esteemed
California quartet The Mother Hips. The single
offers two brand new tracks, "Papa Echo" by The Bees and "Childish
Dreams" by The Mother Hips. The
release marks the first studio recordings since 2007’s Octopus by
The Bees and Kiss
The Crystal Flake by The Mother Hips. The
record is a must have for afficionados who truly appreciate
the psychedelic-70’s-power-pop movement.
“Papa
Echo” from The Bees swirls their well-known psychedelia
with blazing Latin-jazz and salsa rhythms. Side AA’s "Childish
Dreams" from The Mother Hips brings a fresh punch to the bands'
repertoire, "melding heady Revolver-era vocals with
Zombies-esque pop." The antique green sleeve was screen-printed
in NYC with hand-drawn lettering by Hugh Miller Surratt, the
resident poster artist at Michigan State University from 1970-1975,
drawing posters for Miles Davis, The Byrds, Frank Zappa, and
The Grateful Dead, among others.
Orders
are being taken now. All orders received a free download
of each track within 24 hours of placing the order. This is
a limited edition release and these songs will not be available
