THE
MOTHER HIPS CELEBRATE 20th ANNIVERSARY
WITH
ARCHIVAL BOX SET RELEASE
"DAYS
OF SUN & GRASS”
ORDER! ALL
ORDERS
IINCLUDE AN IMMEDIATE EXCLUSIVE FREE 8-SONG
BONUS DIGITAL EP OF OUTTAKES FROM THE BOX SET
To
commemorate 20 years of California Soul, The Mother Hips are
set to release a limited edition 4-CD box set entitled 'Days
of Sun & Grass: Unreleased Outtakes, Demos, B-Sides and
Live Cuts From Chico's Very Own 1990-2001.' The band
and their archivist uncovered countless hours of tapes from
the Mother Hips vaults to come up with the 4-plus hours of
all unreleased music chronicling the first eleven years of
the band's history and is arguably some of their best material
ever released.
The collection
is spread out over a 4-CD set - each CD representing a different
era of the band’s career. Volume One traces the
bands’ evolution at Chico State University from 1990 - 1992
when founding members Tim Bluhm and Greg Loiacono were an acoustic
duo and includes early sketches of fan favorites illustrating the
progression to their four-piece rock 'n' roll band. Volume Two
concentrates on their road-weary hard-partying major label days
and includes outtakes from this period’s recording sessions. Volume
Three focuses on their sobered-up days releasing records for independent
labels and when their songwriting became more concise and focused. Volume
Four is a radio appearance CD most notably featuring the first
known interview with Bluhm and Loiacono while they were students
in the Chico State dormitory and within a week of their first show
together when they were known as Ali and the Cats, and is very
telling of what's to come.
Along with
the 4 CDs, the box set boasts cover art from Sierra Nevada
Brewery artist Jason Roberson, an 88-page booklet containing
vintage photos, posters, press articles, and extensive liner
notes on each track from the band and those associated with the
recordings, and paints a vivid aural and pictorial history and
explaining why the band has been so special in the early years
as well as proving why they are even more relevant today. |

RELEASE:
TIM
& NICKI BLUHM 'DUETS'
Tim and Nicki Bluhm have recorded an 8-song limited CD EP called Duets.
The duo blends the honky tonk harmonies of California country with
West Coast folk and acoustic Americana, interlaced with vocal nuances
and an emotional intimacy that inspire pin-drop attention. Duets features
six original songs co-written by the Bluhms, plus two covers: “Running
Wild” by Ray Edenton and Donny Winters; and “Reno,
Nevada” by Richard Fariña. The couple recorded
the songs at their San Francisco studio, Mission Bells, with producer
Dan Prothero (Tim’s solo album California Way, Galactic,
JJ Grey & Mofro).
“Duets sounds like a smile,” says Nicki. “Duets is
a collection of songs from the past and of the present. Its
simplicity and authenticity captures an era forgotten while being
fresh and new. These are songs filled with love, character
and charm that you can hear on every track.”
It is available
timandnickibluhm.com and
at shows. Preview
some tracks here!

Duets will be available on iTunes and other digital distribution

HIPS
HELLES
SIERRA
NEVADA BREWERY PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE MOTHER
HIPS
Two
of the greatest things to come out of Chico, California....
The Mother Hips, and Sierra Nevada Beer! The
kind folks at Sierra
Nevada Brewery have brewed a specialty beer
to pay tribute to Chico's favorite sons The Mother
Hips who are celebrating their 20th Anniversary
this year! The style of beer hand-picked by Tim
Bluhm is a Helles which is a light and very drinkable
lager. Tim was invited to the brewery to help brew
this amazing beer. It is currently only available
on tap at Sierra Nevada Brewery in Chico but will
also be available at the 3rd
Annual Mother Hips Family Hipnic. The beer
has received an amazing response so far. We're
keeping our fingers crossed that Sierra Nevada
will continue to produce this beer on a regular
basis and distribute to a wider audience! Cheers!! |

EXCLUSIVE ACOUSTIC DOWNLOAD
DO IT ON THE STRINGS:
Live In California November 2010
While
drummer John Hofer took some time off in November 2010 to spend
time with his newborn daughter, the remaining Mother Hips booked
a handful of acoustic shows in northern and southern California.
Tim, Greg, and Paul performed songs from almost every Mother
Hips record, songs from their respective side-projects, a cover
song or two, and two new songs giving us a glimpse of the next
Hips record. With lyrics and harmonies shining through, these
songs take on new meaning than when performed with the loud rock
tones of an electric Mother Hips show. But what also made these
performances so enjoyable was seeing Paul Hoaglin alternate between
bass, mandolin, and pedal steel guitar while also contributing
to the three-part vocal harmonies. This set was mostly recorded
live in Grass Valley, California on November 13th, 2010 except
for three tracks which were recorded the night before in Santa
Monica, CA.

ALBUM FROM NICKI BLUHM 'DRIFTWOOD'
Nicki
Bluhm's sophomore release entitled 'Driftwood' was
released on February 1st! Co-produced by husband Tim Bluhm along
with David Simon-Baker, the songs recall a mid-1970's drive on a

sound is uniquely her own while also summoning the spirits of Linda
Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Karen Carpenter, and Grace Slick. Along with
members of ALO, Railroad Earth, Dengue Fever, and Skinny Singers,
Tim Bluhm contributes lead and backing vocals, guitar, piano and
organ, and fellow Mother Hips members Greg Loiacono and Paul Hoaglin
